The profile

Who this is for.

Walken School is for teachers who enjoy teaching when it is done properly: a clear plan for the course, small groups where you know every student, correction that students actually receive and use, and progress you can point to at the end of the year.

Our teaching spans the full range. At our centre in Lorca, we work with children and teenagers from age 3 to 18, following the Cambridge pathway from Pre A1 Starters through to C1 Advanced. Online, we prepare adults intensively for Cambridge (B1 Preliminary to C2 Proficiency) and Aptis (B1-B2) certifications. Depending on your profile, you might work with one of these groups or across several.

The environment

How we work.

If you join us, this is the environment you'd be teaching in.

01

Level diagnosis before placement.

Every student is assessed before joining a group. You teach students who belong in the class they're in.

02

Small groups.

Our groups are small enough that you know every student's name, strengths and weak points within the first weeks. That is a deliberate methodological choice, not a marketing line.

03

Structured courses.

Each course follows a defined itinerary aligned with the Cambridge English framework. Materials are provided and planned. You are not improvising a syllabus week to week.

04

Exam preparation done seriously.

Cambridge and Aptis preparation is built around the official format and assessment criteria of each exam. Teachers who know — or want to learn — how these exams are actually marked will feel at home.

05

Feedback and assessed work.

Students and families receive honest feedback on progress.

06

Professional communication.

Clear schedules, clear expectations, responsive coordination. You teach; the structure around you works.

You can work with us in person at our centre in Lorca, online, or in a combination of both, depending on your location and our needs at the time.

The candidate

What we look for.

A strong command of English.

Native or near-native level, with the accuracy the Cambridge framework demands.

Teaching experience or relevant qualifications.

CELTA, TEFL, a relevant degree, or solid classroom experience. We weigh what you can do in a classroom over the certificate alone.

Reliability.

Students and families depend on continuity. So do we.

Clear communication.

With students, with families, and with the team.

Comfort with online teaching tools.

If you're applying to teach online.

Flexibility across age groups.

Depending on your profile: children, teenagers or adults.

Interest in Cambridge and Aptis exam preparation.

Not required for every role, but always valued. If you already know these exams from the inside, say so.

In their own words

What it's like to work here.

The most honest account of a workplace comes from the people who have worked in it. These are teachers who taught at Walken School and wrote about the experience afterwards, in their own words.

The best thing about teaching at Walken School has been the small classes. Each group has a maximum of 8 students, and because of this I got to know the children in my groups really well — it made adult classes more personal too. The other staff are fantastic and super helpful, from the classes themselves to settling into life in Lorca.
Kim
The teaching materials are always available, students' individual needs are assessed and met, resources are in abundance. All you need to do is teach. The atmosphere at the institute is always great — it's been a pleasure working there.
Marco
There was a friendly and supportive atmosphere at Walken. I was mostly teaching the younger students, and I could bring music, creative activities and games into the classroom. As all the material was provided, classes were much easier to prepare.
